I use to paint copies in many stages and layers. I made a workshop this summer at National Gallery and learned new technicals and skills... To paint a perfect replica 1 to 1 you must be in front of the picture. Simple using a Photo isnīt enough. There are ways you can paint replicas in the National Gallery/London, you must have a permission and when you obtain it, it allow you maximally 5 weeks to make it. I saw many times and liked it...
I am having a big problem with this picture. I can not find the red from the curtain what Velazquez used on the original picture.I tought it were " Madder lake deep" or "Vemillion red deep", but unfortunatelly it is not! I must search for this curtain red...
The angel here is probably the most timefull thing. Will need some hours to get it. Hope I ca nend this picture till the 07th Oktober ...we will see Also the refletion on the mirror a really not easy thing. My opinion is Velazquez shall not be proud of this work, sometimes a bit untidy! I will try to make this replica zoomable too, have the software already.
I ended the angel, but am having problems with the mirror reflection. Must try new a technical.
Here you can see every detail of this work from Velazquez. ZOOMABLE!
